This body of work was created simultaneously, starting with standard 18" square canvases. I was thinking of painting as a commodity. Fixing the size of the support universalized that element and at the same time cancelled it out, allowing the focus to be more on what was happening within the readymade canvas, and also on the relationship between the pieces when they were hung together. In that sense I was also thinking of them as modular, even putting some right next to each other or reconfiguring their arrangement to create different relationships. Similar to how the individual elements within a painting exist in relationship to each other, I wanted to extend that variability to each separate unit or piece as a whole, so that they could be viewed both as individual paintings and within the context of "productivity" that each canvas comes out of.
